The five foods that can make you feel "tired all the time," according to experts

These are foods that have a high content of tyramine, a molecule that negatively affects sleep.
Not all foods have the same effect on the human body. Recent research has shown that feeling more tired than usual may be linked to several foods rich in tyramine, which increase the risk of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), a disorder that prevents people from staying alert during normal daytime activities.
In this regard, experts have identified five foods high in tyramine that may be responsible for this excessive fatigue, and have suggested that a series of simple dietary changes could address this.
These include aged cheeses, cured and processed meats , spreads with yeast extract, pickled foods, and salted foods such as fish or nuts, according to the journal Lancet eBioMedicine .
"Consuming foods rich in tyramine could lead to higher levels of monoamines, such as adrenaline , which in turn can negatively affect sleep ," they note.
As the researchers note in the article, excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) "has been linked to an increased risk of mortality, hypertension , cardiovascular disease, and traffic accidents, as well as decreased quality of life and productivity. Despite its impact on health, much remains unknown about the biological mechanisms of EDS and whether these mechanisms are independent of other sleep disorders."
For this reason, Tariq Faquih, lead author of the study and a postdoctoral researcher in the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, is optimistic about the study's results, as reducing food consumption could improve excessive daytime sleepiness.
"Our study suggests that diet and genetics may play an important role in EDS. As we learn about the biology, we begin to understand how and why EDS occurs, the early signs that someone might have it, and what we can do to help patients," he notes.
